The assignment was completed last week and now it is running beautifully. The problem was largely with the linear polarising filters in front of the projectors.
please keep up the good work, best regards,
Janak

Kaj Toet comments on Project on hold until I can get better projectors.

Hey, very nice project. Too bad you cant use the LED projectors, they're quit cheap and small too. Way too little lumens though :( Anyway, thanks for posting, and keep up the good work!

Steve B comments on Project on hold until I can get better projectors.

Yeah, I've thought about that too. I think that would probably fall under fair use if you own the bluray, but I'm not sure. There's still more and more non copyrighted material becoming available with the new 3d cameras that came out Q4 last year, so I'm still hopeful someone will provide a software solution to dual projection. I've seen some polarized single projectors for sale (at insanely high prices) so they must be using the stream normally meant for shutter glass based 3d. Seems like the coding of some application that runs between the OS and the video card could split these frames and send them to different displays. I haven't coded since the 80s so I'm by no means an expert, but it sounds like we need an IZ3d wrapper (even if we had to synchronize it manually) to just change the primary display between frames. The only variables would be frames per second (how many times to change primary display), and the ability to adjust the on/off starting point between frame 1 or 2 (this would allow you to swap L/R orientation in case it starts out of sync). Know any coders? Have you done anymore just for the gaming aspects of dual projection? You'll probably want faster projectors than your original setup, but with the right DLPs the effect could be amazing. Anyways, thanks for responding. I want to eventually try this project myself, but you're right.. if the media isn't there, what's the point. :(

Kael Hankins comments on Project on hold until I can get better projectors.

Afraid not, I have been obliged to move to an apartment and now it looks like I am moving again (hopefully to somewhere I can work). As a note, I have done quite a lot of looking into playing 3D blurays this way and it seems like the biggest pain may be the HDCP on the discs, unless you were to break the protection (possibly illegal) and re-encode both eye streams in another format.

Steve B comments on Project on hold until I can get better projectors.

Kael,

Hey man, have you given up on this project or are you still in a holding pattern? I'd like to hear anything new you've done with this (particularly if anyone running this setup has tried playback with avatar or pixar 3d movies and hear the results. The media is finally becoming available but the viewing solutions available in the stores still suck compared to doing it in REALd style like this.

AdrEniX comments on Project on hold until I can get better projectors.

I'm interested at your project but i have many problem to retrieve a good projection screen for polarized light.. i've tested my old classic white screen and i found that the back (that is black) is reflective. Getting the software / drivers required to do dual screen output (assuming they will even play well together) may be a real nightmare especially with HDCP thrown into the mix. Re-encoding each stream individually may be the only way to go.

Thanks for the suggestion on key stoning Ash, brilliant idea to flip one over. Unfortunately I moved to a small apartment so the project will be on hold for a bit. I will send notification emails to any commenters when I can get started again to save you guys the trouble of checking back.

AL-Amin: I will get on that parts list (not alot really) but I would not wait on me (see above response).

Heath: Wow, do you have a blog for your project? I would love to take a look, I too have run across info indicating that DLP would be better. I think the 24p mode should work if each projector is synced (at slower speed I think you might see some artifacts if you move
your head, possibly similar to rolling shutter?)

Kael Hankins comments on Ghosting issues resolved!

I ended up using Krylon silver (has a picture of a silver painted chair on it if I recall correctly).

Sorry about the lag in comment response, forgot to turn on notifications and did not expect so much interest.

dave comments on Project on hold until I can get better projectors.

Hi, stumbled upon your blog and im doing something similar to you, except im building the actual projectors from scratch. I have a question though. Ive done some reading and I cant find any software that will output 3d blu-ray discs to a duo pj setup. unless were you planning on ripping the blu-rays yourself?
